Year 4 - Parents Information
Autumn Term 1 – Kenyan Safari

In Year 4 for the first half term of the new school year our creativity topic is Kenyan Safari. Here are just some of the fun things we will be learning about:

Literacy – Information Texts. We will be learning about the layout and contents of information texts. Our aim is to create one linked to our topic and the animals we will be learning about.

Science – Habitats! We will be looking at animals habitats, where they live both here in England and in Kenya. We will be investigating how animals adapt to their environment, food chains and more.

Art – We will be researching, designing and making our own Massai Warrior shields and spears.

ICT – We will be creating branching databases. These special databases will allow the children to
identify the different types of animals based on their individual characteristics.

Geography – We will be comparing the different landscapes in Kenya to those of England. We will be researching the animals, weather and climate, as well as how the people of Kenya live.
We will be going on safari as we visit Knowsley Safari Park. This will allow us to see animals native to Kenya and Africa up close, whilst learning more about them.

Creative Topic Drivers.
As enterprising and ambitious people we will explore the role of a game ranger and role play being on a safari in Kenya.

As communicators we will share our safari adventures with the school in an assembly. As healthy people we will learn about different animal’s habitats and how we can help to protect
them.

As members of the school, local, UK and global community we will explore the Massai Warrior culture and identify the issues they face.
